"JUDAS ISCARIOT"
12. JUDAS ISCARIOT
THE APOSTLE WHO BETRAYED JESUS. JUDAS ISCARIOT'S WAS THE SON OF A MAN NAMED SIMON JOHN 6;71 THE TERM ISCARIOT IS USED TO DISTINGUISH THIS JUDAS FROM ANOTHER MAN WHO WAS ALSO NAMED JUDAS IN LUKE 6;16, JOHN 14;22 AND ACTS 1;13    THE HISTORY OF JUDAS IS SOMEWHAT CLOUDED. ONE WOULD ASSUME THAT HE SHOWED PROMISE TO JESUS AS JESUS CHOSE HIM AS ONE OF HIS FOLLOWERS. JUDAS IT WOULD SEEM MUST HAVE BEEN TRUSTED AS HE WAS THE DECIPLES TREASURER. JUDAS BETRAYED JESUS AT THE GARDEN OF GETHSEMANE, IN WHICH JUDAS RECEIVED 30 PIECES OF SILVER FROM THE PRIESTS. JUDAS USED A KISS AS A SIGNAL TO THE ROMAN SOLDIERS TO IDENTIFY THE LORD. AFTER THE BETRAYAL, JUDAS MUST HAVE FELT REMORSE AS HE TRIED TO RETURN THE 30 PIECES OF SILVER, AND WHEN THE PRIESTS REFUSED TO ACCEPT IT, JUDAS THREW THE SILVER ON THE GROUND AND THEN HUNG HIMSELF. THE REASON FOR HIS BETRAYAL IS A MATTER OF CONTROVERSY. SOME SUGGESTED THAT HE MAY HAVE FELT JESUS WAS NOT THE TRUE MESSIAH, YET ANOTHER THEORY IS THAT JUDAS WAS SIMPLY A FULFILLMENT OF PROPHECY. THE OTHER PLAUSIBLE EXPLANATION MAY HAVE BEEN THAT JUDAS WAS DECCEIVED BY SATAN, THE HIGH PRIESTS, OR OTHERS INVOLVED IN THE ARREST OF JESUS. A TRUE TRAITOR WOULD NOT HAVE TRIED TO GIVE BACK THE 30 PEICES OF SILVER FOR THIS BETRAYAL, AND THEN HANG HIMSELF DUE TO GUILT AFTER REALIZING WHAT HE HAD ACTUALLY DONE.AFTER THE DEATH OF JUDAS, THE REMAINING ELEVEN APOSTLES HAD LOTS TO REPLACE JUDAS, IN WHICH MATTHIAS WAS SELECTEDAS THE 12TH APOSTLE.

64 But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him.
65 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.
66 From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.
67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?
68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.
69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.

23 Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.
24 Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that he should ask who it should be of whom he spake.
25 He then lying on Jesus' breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it?
26 Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.
27 And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly.
28 Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him.
29 For some of them thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus had said unto him, Buy those things that we have need of against the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor.

6 As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.
7 Then asked he them again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth.
8 Jesus answered, I have told you that I am he: if therefore ye seek me, let these go their way:
