6. PHILIP
PHILIP , AS WELL AS MOST OF THE 12 APOSTLES
WAS FROM AREA OF THE CITY BETHSAIDA, NORTH OF THE GALILEE SEA. PHILIP WAS
SKEPTICAL AT THE TIME OF HIS CALLING AND AT THE FEEDING OF THE 5,000, JESUS
WHEN ASKED HIM HOW SO MANY PEOPLE COULD BE FED. AS THE APOSTLES HAD ONLY
SEVEN LOAVES OF BREAD AND A FEW FISH, PHILIP BEGAN CALCULATING THE COST
RATHER THAN ANSWERING IN FAITH ( MATT; 16:8 TO 16; 12 ) IT WAS PHILIP WHO
BROUGHT THE FUTURE APOSTLE NATHANIEL TO MEET JESUS. THE LAST DAYS OF PHILIP
ARE UNKWON BUT THE HISTORIAN EUSEBIUS SAYS PHILIP WAS " THE GREAT LIGHT
OF OF ASIA " AND WAS BURIED AT HIERAPOLIS.

brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;
3 Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas,
and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose
surname was Thaddaeus;
4 Simon the Canaanite, and Judas
Iscariot, who also betrayed him.
5 These twelve Jesus sent forth,
and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into
any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:

they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach,
15 And to have power to heal
sicknesses, and to cast out devils:
16 And Simon he surnamed Peter;
17 And James the son of Zebedee,
and John the brother of James; and he surnamed them Boanerges, which is,
The sons of thunder:
18 And Andrew, and Philip, and

unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named
apostles;
14 Simon, (whom he also named

15 Matthew and Thomas, James

go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me.
44 Now Philip was of Bethsaida,
the city of Andrew and Peter.
45 Philip findeth Nathanael,
and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the
prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.
46 And Nathanael said unto him,
Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come
and see.
47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming
to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!
48 Nathanael saith unto him,
Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip
called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.
49 Nathanael answered and saith
unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.
50 Jesus answered and said unto
him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest
thou? thou shalt see greater things than these.
51 And he saith unto him, Verily,
verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels
of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man

5 When Jesus then lifted up
his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he saith unto Philip,
Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat?
6 And this he said to prove
him: for he himself knew what he would do.
7 Philip answered him, Two hundred
pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them
may take a little.
8 One of his disciples, Andrew,
Simon Peter's brother, saith unto him,
9 There is a lad here, which
hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among
so many?
10 And Jesus said, Make the
men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down,
in number about five thousand.
11 And Jesus took the loaves;
and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the
disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much
as they would.
12 When they were filled, he
said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing
be lost.
13 Therefore they gathered them
together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley
loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten.
14 Then those men, when they
had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that prophet
that should come into the world.

19 The Pharisees therefore said
among themselves, Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold, the world
is gone after him.
20 And there were certain Greeks
among them that came up to worship at the feast:
21 The same came therefore to
Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir,
we would see Jesus.
22 Philip cometh and telleth
Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.
23 And Jesus answered them,
saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.
24 Verily, verily, I say unto
you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone:
but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

9 Jesus saith unto him, Have
I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he
that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew
us the Father?
10 Believest thou not that I
am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you
I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the
works.
11 Believe me that I am in the
Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.
12 Verily, verily, I say unto
you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and
greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
13 And whatsoever ye shall ask
in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 If ye shall ask any thing
in my name, I will do it.
